Crash Pad
Frequently Asked questions
What is typical crash pad etiquette?
- Close your bedroom door when you are sleeping. This indicates to other crew members someone is in the room and that they should enter quietly.
- Remove your personal hygiene items from the bathroom and shower so the maid may clean.
- NEVER leave the apartment door unlocked!
- NEVER hit your alarm's snooze button. Be respectful of your roommates by getting up quickly and quietly.
Are the crash pads open to any airline employee?
- No. West Coast Crash Pads are available to male pilots only.
Where are West Coast Crash Pads located?
Seattle, Washington and El Segundo, California (near LAX).
The Seattle House is located near Angle Lake, just 2 blocks from the Link light rail station. On the train it is one quick stop to the airport.
At LAX we have two apartments in El Segundo, CA. El Segundo is an upper middle class neighborhood. Transportation to and from LAX consists of an Uber/Lyft which will cost between $6-$12 each way depending on drop-off/pick-up location. Bus service on the 232 line picks up just off of airport property and is $1.75 each way.
Are your locations safe?
- Yes. All crash pad locations are in safe comfortable neighborhoods. Friendly neighbors are aware of our lifestyles and respect our sometimes odd hours of coming and going. Please be sure to return the respect to their neighborhood as you would your own.
If I have a car is parking available at the crash pad?
- Each LAX apartment has 1 parking spot and it's first-come, first-serve.
- Street parking in LA is available but beware of weekly street cleaning as posted.
- There is ample parking at the SEA House. We provide 4 driveway parking spots and there is ample street parking. Parking is for CURRENT SEA House residents only, which means you cannot leave your car at the house when you’re not at the crash pad.
How much is monthly rent?
- All locations in LAX are $365 each month.
- The Seattle house is $275 each month.
When is rent due?
- The 1st of each month.
Is there a late fee if I do not pay by the 1st?
- Yes. If payment has not been received by midnight on the 3rd of the month there is a $10/per day late fee.
How do I secure a place at your crash pad?
- Scroll to the bottom of this page to send me an email to ask about availability or click “Call Us” on your smart phone to call me directly. Ask for Mark.
My schedule is unknown, can you prorate in and out?
- We do not normally prorate. If an outgoing pilot leaves their spot a few days early we will make it available to incoming pilots. In this instance we will prorate daily.
How much notice is required before leaving the crash pad?
- 30 days notice are required if you plan on vacating the crash pad. If we receive less than this you forfeit your deposit.
How much is the deposit?
- $100 paid upfront and returned to you upon vacating the pad.
Is there a minimum stay?
- To minimize turnover we ask for a minimum of a 3-month commitment to your crash pad. You can leave in less than 3 months, but if so you forfeit your deposit.
How many beds are in each room?
- Rooms have either 4 beds (two bunks) or 6 beds (three bunks). The factor affecting this is purely size of the bedroom. We don’t cram extra bunks in a room just to maximize beds. Each room has a comfortable amount of space to move around, even when leaving early or arriving late.
Is there a limit on the number of nights I can stay in the crash pad each month?
- No. We do insist that you are not “living” at the crash pad. But if you need to be at the crash pad for work related reasons, there is no limit on days.
Do reserve pilots pay more for the crash pad because they are there more days?
- No.
Will the rent be increased over time?
- While we have no plans to increase the rent for any of the crash pads, if there is ever a need to do so we will provide 60 days notice to all residents affected.
What should I bring to the crash pad?
- Most things are included but here is what you will need to provide:
- bedding that fits a twin mattress
- pillow
- bath towel
- personal soaps and hygiene products
Recommended, but not required, items are:
- mattress topper - the beds are pretty comfy but the topper will give you additional comfort
- extension cord to plug in your personal electronics
Is there a TV?
- Yes. Each crash pad features a large flat screen TV with full cable and sports channels. The highest speed, private and password protected Wi-Fi is also available at each crash pad to allow you to stream movies to your personal device.
Is alcohol allowed?
- Yes.
Is smoking allowed?
- No.
Are the crash pads professionally cleaned?
- Yes. Once a week each crash pad is cleaned by a maid service. Please clean up after yourself for daily spills and crumbs. The cleaning service will pay particular attention to the bathrooms and main living areas.
Can I do my own cooking in the crash pad?
- Yes! Every crash pad location has a full kitchen with all the necessary pots, pans, plates and cutlery required for a healthy hearty meal.
Can I have any packages or mail sent to the crash pad?
- Yes but do so at your own risk. We can not be held responsible, nor can crash pad mates be held responsible for packages or mail delivered to the pad.
